The New Zealand Flag Should Change
✓ ❌
Have you heard the debate about changing the flag? Well, this is my opinion, the New Zealand flag should definitely change.
One reason is because the flag we have now doesn’t have much heritage. Its colours aren’t really special to us. Most of our sports teams have names like the Silver ferns or the All Blacks. They have names relating to the colours black, white and silver or have something to do with a fern. Our flag now doesn’t show anything to do with that.
Also there’s nothing on the flag that shows maori culture. The maori flag colours are red, black and white, so our flag should have a maori pattern with those colours.
As well as have a bit of maori culture the flag should be a bit more interesting. The flag we have now is boring, the only colours are red, blue and white. The background is a plain blue. Its not colourful. The new flag should have at least two colours for the background. The things like the stars should be a little bit more interesting, like being more colourful.
Anyway the flag now looks to much like the Australian flag, I get mixed up with the two flags. The only difference is that the Australian flag has 6 stars and the stars they have are white.
That is why we should definitely change the New Zealand flag.

Man's Best Friend
Man’s best friend
Ever wondered what man’s best friend means. Well it just means dog, but it is used because people made some dogs into pets and that’s where you get the best friend part. And the man part basically means mankind.
Dogs can be great pets but they can also do a lot of other things too, like sniffing out drugs at international airports or helping blind people find their way around.
Dogs have a really good sense of smell so smelling out drugs is a good job for them. The dogs usually have a policeman/policewoman with them while sniffing out drugs. Most of the dogs work at an international airport where travellers from different countries could have brang drugs into the airport illegally. They get rewarded with dogs treats. They can also smell out people who are lost in the bush or people who are robbing a shop.
Another good job for a dog would be a farm dog because dogs are quite fit and can run around herding sheep. But they should also get some rest as well. Farmers can’t do all the herding themselves so herding sheep would be a great job for a dog.
A dog can also help by guarding a property. They will bark when someone is coming and try to attack the person. That will be a good job because dogs can be fierce to bad people and good to their owners.
Those are some examples of why a dog can be a man’s best friend, but don’t go thinking they can’t be great pets.

When I grow up...
When I grow up...

I would like to be an drama teacher when I am not acting because it is a fun job and I would like to work with creative kids. Acting would help me with my confidence in things and teaching will also help with my confidence. I would also like to be a director because directors help people with their acting and you really have to think about what should happen in the movie.

Oakley Creek
Oakley creek is having lots of floods and looks very boring, Auckland council is going to redesign it, they asked Owairaka school for ideas. These are my ideas.
First of all I think there should be an awesome adventure playground, it would have a giant, colourful trampoline with trampolines on the sides as the net , a climbing wall, swings, slide, tall turret that you could walk up the stairs on the inside, a double flying fox that two people could go on together, a green, caterpillar seesaw with cut ropes as legs, twisting blue monkey bars that looked like waves and humungous minion statue that you could climb up.
I think there should also be sports fields (hockey turf, soccer field, Rugby field). If you did not bring their own sports gear you could hire sports gear from the sports shack next door. You wouldn’t have to pay to go on the turf.
Another idea is to have a little petting zoo. Auckland council could employ someone to look after the animals. The petting zoo would have a hamster town,a bunny village, a llama pen and a chicken pen. It would be $1 for entry.
I also think that there should be a picnic area with big climbing trees and park tables and benches. In the picnic area there would be some hide and seek obstacles like big rocks to hide behind and small caves to hide in.
Another one of my ideas is to have a separate lane for walking and another lane for biking, scootering or skateboarding. There would also be a red and black bridge. The bridge would go over top of the creek and the bike track.
A skatepark is one of the main things you see in a park so I think there should be a skatepark. The skate park would be a colourful skatepark with each obstacle a different colour. There would be ramps, bumps and stuff like that.
In summer it gets hot so there should be a water slide to cool down in. It would be quite steep it wouldn’t be to bumpy because people might get hurt. At the end it would flatten and at the very end would be a shallow pool so you wouldn’t get grass stains.
Those are all my ideas, it would be really cool if one of my ideas was actually there, thanks for reading.

The Great Egg Drop Challenge
This is my writing about Rm 20's egg drop challenge.
On Monday the 23rd of February RM 20 did a great egg drop. If you entered you had to make a contraption, put an egg in it, then you had to chuck it off the top of the senior playground. Most people cushioned theirs or used a parachute to decrease the velocity.
Six people entered but only four of them came to school on the day of the egg drop. Everyones egg survived, except Alice’s unfortunately cracked.
My contraption was a tomato container, it had scrunched up plastic bags glued to the sides inside to cushion it. My invention also had two plastic bag parachutes attached to the contraption with wire. My egg survived the drop.
In my opinion the great egg drop was fabulous.

Beach Writing
This is my writing about the beach, each subject is highlighted a different colour.
The hot sand burned my feet as I walked the down the peaceful beach making footprints. Footprints weaved around the sand castles on the beach. The waves smashed against the rocks as loud as a lions roar. The waves made little kids trip over. Dribble castles, high turrets, kids made castles in the burning sand.
The sky was as blue as a sky on a perfect summers day. Seagulls soared around it, screeching in the distance. An adult handed out helium balloons to a few kids having a party. Two of the helium balloons floated up to the sky as I heard a child cry.
The taste of watermelon swirled in my mouth as I took a bite out of a juicy piece of watermelon from the family picnic. “Yum” shouted my sister as she took a bite into her piece of watermelon.
The smell of sausages on the BBQ was dragging me back to the yummy family picnic.
